Abstract

Considered in its semiotic and symbolic complexity, the cartographic imagination of a literary text or a film is crucial not only for the understanding of the cinematographic or literary work itself, but also for penetrating into the discourse of a determined historical epoch. What I want to show in this article is the function of cartographic imagination in science fiction films produced during the first three decades of the Space Age (1957–1986), which, more or less, coincided with the years of the Cold War.
