In an urban and architectural reading, astonishment and wonder, responses that are in part neglected, become crucial feelings for the perception of the world around us and for understanding the places we inhabit. If the sensorial experience of the urban context is mainly inferred from the sense of sight, other senses such as touch and hearing often prove essential for spatial knowledge. Sistine Rome, with its new regulatory axes and its constellations of punctiform obelisks, and lagoon Venice, characterised by its canals, its minute and strongly textured fabric, become emblematic cases for urban understanding through different sensorial experiences. Through the instrument of the section, in fact, it is possible to verify, in the city, the equation that connects urban space with the experience of meaning and the individual. It will then be the monument, in its symbolic and semiotic meaning, that will reinforce this concordance by affirming the different relationships between the city and the visual goals or between the urban context and the perception of matter.
